Sprinkler pipe burst in apartment complex

The sprinkler pipe burst in an area apartment complex, causing leakage resulting in large puddles on the carpeting of the hallways as well as inside individual apartments. The walls also experienced water damage.  

Typically, a sprinkler pipe will burst when the sprinkler is not properly winterized, so we typically see this occur during the colder months. Water freezes inside these pipes, creating an obstruction for water flow, which is very dangerous if a fire was to occur. As the ice expands in the pipe, pressure increases within the pipe, causing it to burst.
